The MBBR process ingeniously integrates a substantial amount of suspended packing (biofilm carrier) into the reactor. This provides a habitat for a diverse range of microorganisms.
These microorganisms congregate in the biofilm within the sheltered regions of the reactor,
displaying a dynamic balance. Inside, anaerobic bacteria or facultative aerobes thrive, while aerobic bacteria flourish on the exterior of the vector.
Each carrier acts as an efficient micro reactor, either in the aerobic treatment system with enhanced aeration or in the anaerobic treatment system with careful stirring.
This design ensures extensive and frequent contact between wastewater and the biological carrier, substantially maximizing system efficiency,
while simultaneously promoting biofilm microbial renewal, maintaining, and elevating biofilm activity. The suspension carrier combines with existing activated sludge to
form a sophisticated composite ecosystem wherein the biofilm attached to the carrier significantly enhances the active biomass
within the reactor. This synergy, leveraging suspended activated sludge and surface biofilm, dramatically improves the system's resilience to impact loads,
boosting wastewater treatment efficacy and stabilizing effluent quality,
leading to a notable improvement in overall system performance.
