These microorganisms form robust colonies, concentrating within the biofilm in the sheltered zones of the
carrier. The dynamic environment supports the growth of anaerobic and facultative aerobic bacteria internally, while aerobic bacteria flourish on the outer surface.
Each biofilm carrier acts as a micro-reactor. Within aerobic treatment systems, blast aeration powers the process, while in anaerobic systems, stirring ensures
that wastewater and biological carriers of biofilm come into extensive and frequent contact. This interaction boosts the system's efficiency,
while simultaneously enhancing the microbial update of the biofilm. It maintains and elevates biofilm activity, creating a more
complex and synergistic ecosystem alongside the original activated sludge. The biofilm securely attached to the carrier significantly increases active biomass
